Behind the Peel

My name is Eryn Roush Austin. I am basically a professional thinker. For to write, you must think, correct? For the past 5 years I have made my living writing professionally. Both as editor and assistant editor of local publications and as a freelancer.

The other side of my brain, the dreamer side, is constantly spouting out ideas, hair-brained schemes, and far-fetched aspirations. I try to tame them, I swear I do. Often, though, I give in and decide to venture into the unknown.

In 2004, I followed my little inner dreamer and started my first blog- The Worn Pages. After getting married and starting a new job, I took a hiatus from the blog world and turned my focus onto a novel. A beautiful novel, that is currently sitting in a paper box in my bedroom. - The characters occasionally call to me in my dreams and I feel terrible for having neglected them since becoming pregnant in August of 2008.

This blog is named Sweet Lemon Squeezed because of a song my daddy used to sing to me, and sang to me again the day before my wedding.
Girls can never change their nature;
That is quite beyond their reach.
If a girl is born a lemon,
She can never be a peach.

But the law of compensation
Is the one I always preach.
You can always squeeze a lemon.
But just try to squeeze a peach.

Beyond that, this blog bears the name because of my philosophies on life.
  1. In order to be filled up, we must be squeezed empty. We must be pressed down, tested, strengthened, and scourged of the junk in our lives before we can be filled back up again. In my life these past 2 years, I have experienced the pain and joy of this process many times. It always ends in God's sovereignty and grace. That is worth the squeezing.
  2. I am a "sweet lemon." It is just the way it is. Both sassy and sugary, made into segments, and quite delicious on a warm southern summer day. (wait...not the last one.)
  3. Mostly, I really believe in having a positive, sunny attitude. That doesn't mean I am a Pollyanna- that doesn't even mean I am happy all of the time. It just means I try, each and every day, to make the best of life. Should be a simple concept.
I am currently a full time freelancer, senior editor of Hall County Magazine, and part-time stay at home mom. I live in Lawrenceville, Georgia with my brilliant husband and miraculous daughter. My newest goal- be fun for them both. Instead of busy- I want best!

Enjoy the meager musings of my heart and brain, and leave some love on the posts you like!
